AYWO National Teams Announcement

The 2016-17 youth wrestling season is upon us.  AYWO, after 2 great seasons, is posed for its biggest and best season yet with the addition of the SYWO clubs to our already strong roster.  We look forward to providing the youth wrestlers of the State of Alabama a top-notch wrestling experience this year.
I want to reach out to all the coaches, wrestlers and parents to let everyone know of the opportunities that are out there for wrestlers other than the tourneys AYWO clubs will be putting on within the State of Alabama.

I am the new Nationals Teams Director for AYWO.  Shad Rissler will be back for his 3rd season as our National Teams Coach.  We will be looking to carry wrestlers to some great events outside Alabama during the course of this season and after to help further wrestling.

Coaches and Parents – if you have a wrestler who wants to be a part of our National teams – please contact me!!!!!
Spots are limited and we want to put together competitive teams while being great representatives for Alabama wrestling!!!

While participation on AYWO National Teams is not based on a “First Come, First Served” basis, it is very important that we know of interested wrestlers as early as possible.
We are currently working on standards to utilize in the selection process for this and other teams. Those standards will be made available to everyone once they have been approved by the AYWO Board of Directors.

The first event we will be targeting is the Smoky Mtn. Duals held in Gatlinburg, TN during December 16-18. This “dual style” tourney is held in conjunction with the TN TOP 100 tourney at the same location.  The Top 100 tourneys in TN always have strong competition and so this is an opportunity for our kids to experience 2 days of great wrestling.

We plan on taking at least 2 teams to TN so all those who are interested contact me via the email below.

Thanks,

Dave Johnston

Southside Scuffle

Southside Scuffle
January 9, 2016

Couldn’t make it up to the Southern Scuffle at UTC last weekend?  No need to worry, we have our very own Southside Scuffle coming up Saturday!

You have earned the coveted War Hammer and Rudis Sword, but what do you have to defend against them?? Now your arsenal can be complete when you win the Parmula Shield.

This smaller, light weight shield was used by gladiators to defend them in the arena.  Due to its size and weight the gladiators were able to move quicker to deflect attacks and then reengage their opponent quickly and be victorious. Sound familiar? The Parmula Shield will be engraved with the tournament information to commemorate your accomplishment.

Do you have what it takes to earn one of these coveted shields?  A great offense also requires a great defense. The only way to receive this shield is to compete in the Southside Scuffle this weekend.
