Madison Dog Fight

The Battle for Huntsville

If it’s war you want, it’s war you get! The battlefield is Huntsville. This is hand to hand combat, mano a mano. Lace up your shoes and headgear nice and tight because there’s going to be turbulence. AAU Tennessee is getting ready to invade Alabama and many of their troops will be crossing the border to join the battle.

To the victor goes the spoils and this week the Rudis Sword OW Award is BACK! We will be awarding custom engraved Rudis Swords to the Outstanding Wrestlers in each age division. The Rudis Wooden Sword was awarded to Roman Gladiators who had earned their freedom through glorious combat.  Last year the Madison Dog Fight was epic and five elite warriors, one from each age division, were deemed most worthy.  Will it be you this time?

These hand-crafted, custom made awards will be the highlight of any trophy case. Don’t wait until the end of the season. You will have the opportunity to get rewarded for your accomplishments each and every week. Our goal at AWO is to grow our resources and develop creative new ideas to expand wrestling, then implement those ideas and return those resources back into the youth of the State.

Come take part in the best run tournaments in Alabama!

Warrior Clash

admin Announcement

Be the Hammer.  Win the Hammer.

AWO-AAU Warrior Clash

Do you have what it takes to defeat all other warriors and win the coveted Warrior Hammer? Much like Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, only the most worthy of warriors can wield its mighty force. If you’re ready for the fiercest competition in the state, bring your inner warrior and compete for the Warrior Hammer.

This week, we will be awarding custom engraved Warrior Hammers to the Outstanding Wrestlers in each age division. The war hammer was created to deliver a full force blow to overtake an opponent wearing hardened steel armor.

***IMPORTANT TRAVEL ADVISORY***

The Alabaster Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday starting at 10am. Part of Hwy 31 will be closed. Interstate 65 to Exit 238 is probably a better way to travel but still anticipate traffic delays. Please plan accordingly so that you arrive on time to the tournament. Here is the published parade route per the Shelby County Reporter:

Alabaster’s annual Christmas parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, according to the Alabaster Parks and Recreation Department. This year’s parade will follow the same route as last year’s, and will begin at the Ernest McCarty Ford dealership on U.S. 31 before turning right onto Second Place Northwest, traveling down First Street Southwest and ending at the stop sign in front of Southbrook Village.
During the parade, which is organized and sponsored by Alabaster city personnel and the Alabaster Beautification Board, the two southbound lanes of U.S. 31 will be closed, and northbound and southbound traffic will be diverted onto the two northbound lanes.

Alabama Kids Duals

admin Announcement

ALABAMA KIDS DUALS

Finally! Wrestling season is starting this Saturday!  I thought it would never get here. We had a blast the last few weeks with Coach Cozart and Kendall Cross and now were ready to starting putting those skills we learned to use.

We are going to kick off the season with our most popular and fun event, the Alabama Kids Duals.  This event is different than most of our youth tournaments.  We will divide all the wrestlers into random teams with one wrestler per weight class. Each team will receive and wear the same color t-shirts. The teams will compete against each other to see who has the best team just like a high school dual tournament. Medals will be awarded to the top teams.  This is a great event that gets kids cheering for their teammates. This event does not count toward seeding in the Youth State Championship so let’s go have fun.

Important notes:

  • You MUST register in advance so we can build the teams.
  • You do not sign up on TrackWrestling for this event.  Instead, register here.
  • All wrestlers must have a current AAU Athletes Card to participate.
  • ALL COACHES must have an AAU Coaches Card and have completed the free CDC Online Concussion Training to be allowed on the mat this year. The Coaches Card (Non-Athletes Card) requires a background check so do not wait until the last minute. The concussion training only takes a few minutes to complete online. We recommend keeping a copy of your coaches cards, athletes cards, and concussion certificates on your phone which we will check at the door. Don’t get mad if you do not complete this and you are not allowed to coach this week. Our athletes safety comes first!
  • Satellite weigh-ins WILL be accepted for all age groups for this week only. Weigh-in Thursday at practice and get the weigh-in sheets submitted by noon on Friday. Starting next week only 6U an 8U will be allowed to use Satellite weigh-ins.

MANDATORY PRE-REGISTRATION (Register Here)

Please note that wrestlers will need their AAU Card and must pre-register by selecting the registration link above. The tournament Fee ($17) is also paid online.  This tournament is a Duals based format, meaning that wrestler’s will be randomly assigned to a wrestling team. Each wrestler will only wrestle for one team.  Each team will wrestle against other teams created from the registrants for this tournament.  This tournament WILL NOT count toward seeding for the Youth State Tournament nor will it be available on track wrestling.  It will be held on Saturday, November 14 at Thompson High School.  Satellite weigh-ins will still be required.  Every participant will receive an Alabama Kids Duals shirt for his/her entry fee.  Wrestling will begin around 9:00 AM and end around 5:00 PM.  Any wrestler who fails to pre-register will not be able to compete in the tournament.  Registration will be first come – first serve as we are limited to 8 teams

There will be NO manual registrations allowed on Tournament Saturday.

Registration DEADLINE: Friday November 13th at noon.

Everyone can attend Kendall Cross

admin Camps

Why not?

Kendall Cross now open to everyone for free

Ok, you talked us into it. The FREE Kendall Cross Clinic on November 7th no longer has an AAU card requirement either. All clubs welcome, all kids welcome, all schools welcome regardless of affiliation. Why? Because we can’t keep all this Olympic awesomeness just for ourselves. The Cozart Clinic last weekend was a huge success and when we see kids wanting to get better at wrestling, we don’t want it to stop.  It is also the last weekend before high school competition starts so send your entire team. All ages welcome.  Bring a friend. In fact, bring several. No fee and no registration required. Just show up and get better.

This is how we grow wrestling.

AWO NWCA Sponsorship Deal

AWO is very proud to announce our partnership with Rudis Athletic Gear to provide apparel for all the athletes who will be competing at the 2015 NWCA All-Star Classic which will be held at the Georgia Institute of Technology on November 1.  This will be the 50th Anniversary of this prestigious event featuring top ranked wrestlers from across the county. Our AWO logo will be prominently featured on all the Rudis apparel while also being displayed on banners throughout the arena.  This will provide great exposure for Alabama wrestling as the event will be shown live on ESPNU.

Through our partnership, free event tickets and event t-shirts will be made available to AWO members who wish to attend the event on a first come, first serve basis.  Contact Jason LeSueur at jglesueur@gmail.com today for information on how to join AWO, get free tickets, and travel with us to Georgia.
